SALVATORE RE + LEONARDO

23/01/2012

Salvatore Re founded his practice in Pisa in 1991, drawing on a multidisciplinary team of more than 30 architects and engineers with whom he has worked on projects in the most various fields of design, paying special attention to project management at all stages and technological research through partnerships with prominent enterprises and research institutes. The studio’s work ranges from restoration projects such as San Pietro in Vinculis and Palazzo Carranza in Pisa to architectural design work such as Praticelli Student Residence and San Ranieri Hotel and integrated projects such as redevelopment of the former Fonderie Pisane foundry or the “old town” and new cultural district in Piombino; it also includes such complex projects as the new Pisa stadium and the Livorno waste-to-energy plant. Over the years the practice has developed an outstanding talent for project management, working actively on a number of project financing initiatives all over the country. Salvatore Re is the mind behind the Epitecture research project for development of high-tech building wrappers. Epitecture was established in 2008 in collaboration with Parma University as a spin-off research project for development of high performance building wrappers. The architectural studio is divided into two sections: one produces ideas, while the other studies how to put them into effect, taking all the economic factors into consideration. When an idea comes out of the studio it must be implemented in the form specified: the goal is to resolve complexity through incessant exchange and cross-checking of the figures. Numerous projects have been planned and implemented through the project financing tool. Leonardo Strutture was established in 2010, specialising in the study of infrastructures for complex projects.
